Abdullah mamu has had a presence in any and everyone he interacted with and I am no exception.....Right from the time I had the chance opportunity of meeting him in Lucknow in 1992 through my marriage to her favorite niece Tasneem and all through then is something I cherish. A very genuine and loving and caring person he guided me through all the highs and lows that I have faced in my life. A very knowledgeable and well read person one could discuss with him any subject however diverse the topic could be......I recall our discussions on Allama Iqbal and his writings, Pollution Control, Politics, Religion when he spent a few days with me while passing through Frankfurt,Germany or here in India.
He was a gourmand par excellence ...remember learning the nuances of Thai and Vietnamese cuisine from him. He was very fastidious with whatever pursuit took his fancy. My most recent discussion with him, just two days before he left us, was about a trip he wanted to make to Lucknow and Varanasi and Ghazipur.
More than 40 days have passed and it still is not sinking in . I pray to Allah Almighty to grant him place in high heaven. May our Almighty also give strength and succor and patience to Irum, Sameer adn Sabbi Momani and all those of us who he has left behind, to bear this loss. May his soul rest in peace.
