Back in 1968, Barrie had firmly established an electronics, rather than a traditional electrical engineering, department. On a pre-course visit he interviewed me about what electronics, mostly valved, I had already done. And then EES, his invention, was radical. It very much looked to the future, rather than simply remembering the past. He had assembled an excellent team to staff EES. I am so grateful for his foresight, which set me up for a very interesting professional career.
My condolences to his family and friends.
