We will miss his contribution, as well as his personal warmth and integrity. Franz was a highly respected member of the International Society for the Study of Drug Policy. He did a great job of hosting its conference in Utrecht in 2011. As President of the Society, I would like to offer our condolences to Franz's colleagues, friends and family. We will remember him as an excellent researcher, as a dedicated advocate for better policies, as a true internationalist, and as a lovely man.
