I met John in 1997 when I arrived in Silwood Park as a Ph.D student from Malaysia. He was a very kind and patient supervisor, helping me navigate my way through my research and writing. He never stopped encouraging and challenging me to think outside the box. He was instrumental in my decision to move to the United States with the completion of my Ph.D. His advice to me was always "Cast your net as wide as you can, as you can never tell what you might catch". I am truly grateful for his inspiring guidance and never-ending support, kindness, patience and mostly for his friendship. My condolences to his family. Rest in Peace Prof. John Mumford - you will truly be missed.
