I have been fortunate to work with John in recent years, and always found him to be incredibly helpful, encouraging, and quick-witted (in his own dry way). On numerous occasions he would send me a question he had on his mind, that I might be able to address with the mosquito models I had developed. This was invariably the start of a conversation rather than a quick exchange – whatever answer I gave would be followed by more questions (!) - and I always learnt a lot from these exchanges. I will sorely miss John and my thoughts and condolences are with Megan and William.
