I knew John first as an undergraduate where the course he led (Resource Management) was absolutely loved by everyone that took it. The reason for this was not just the content but also the engagement, mentoring and 'feeling of becoming a peer' that was engendered by John and his staff there.
I came to work with John many years later as part of the Target Malaria project and I saw for myself his personal qualities, that have been mentioned by so many. He was always supportive and encouraging and had a really strong interest in everyone's work, from modelling to molecular biology to genetics to community engagement. John was a great asset to the project and to Imperial. He will be sorely missed.
