I came to know John over the last couple of years as he was guiding our Target Malaria team of mathematical modellers. Over this time I developed a real appreciation and affection for him, as he was really a lovely person. During times of tension, I realised that he genuinely wanted to help and support us, and he had our back. I found that I could express myself to him and come out feeling better. I will always remember him as a team player, and use what he taught me to better myself in future.
