Karel DeEtte Graham Munsey passed away November 8th, 2015 after two years of fighting Metastatic Melanoma Cancer. Karel was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on January 19th, 1950 and moved to Anaheim California when she was 7 years old, attending Anaheim Schools and graduating from Rancho Alamitos High School. Karel was a good student who actively participated in choral groups, basketball, and excelled in softball. Karel played club softball for the Orange Lionettes traveling with the team to Japan in 1970 where they took silver medal losing to Japan in the finals 3-0 in front of 30,000 spectators. The same year her Cal State Fullerton basketball team won the national championship with eight players.
Karel graduated from California State University Fullerton and earned her California Teaching Credential from Chapman University. She would speak fondly of her experience as a teacher and coach at Rosary High School saying that it was the best time of her life, playing ball, coaching, teaching, praying and the genuine closeness of the faculty, staff and students. Karel also taught at Jefferson Middle School and retired from Indio Middle School in 2013. Karel is survived by her siblings Phyllis Graham, Bob Graham, Deborah Cekorich and Karen Huitt; her four daughters Stacey Taylor, Erin Higgin, Sara Varela, Alicia Munsey, her son Kevin Munsey and 17 grandchildren.
