It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our dear colleague Mrs. Mary Dibo on 19 October 2020.
Mary joined UN-Habitat on 24.04.1989 and worked for the organization for 31 years in various roles within UN-Habitat. Her last assignment was in the Knowledge and Innovation Branch as Programme Management Assistant working primarily on Administration and budget for the Branch. Mary was a dedicated, hardworking, reliable and outstanding staff member who contributed much to the Branch and the Organization as a whole. She was always willing to learn new systems and available to train other staff members within and outside her Branch. For the period 2014 to 2016 in addition to her normal tasks she worked as a focal point of UNOPS recruitment.
Mary had been unwell for the past two years; and even when she was undergoing treatment she still came to the office as often as possible, did her best to accomplish her tasks until when her health could no longer allow her to work. The last time Mary was in the office was 16th of March 2020 when the office premises were officially closed due to COVID 19.
Mary was a kind, considerate, humble and loving person. She had a very positive attitude to life and was a very friendly and a wonderful person to be around with. She will be greatly missed by all colleagues, friends and family.
Mary is survived by her husband Mr. Francis Miyai Ochola, her son Kwame Miyai and daughter Cornelia Akinyi Ochola. The joy of her life were her three grandchildren Nana Apondi Miyai, Nathan Kwh Omondi and Natalie Sifa Omondi.
Our prayers are and thoughts are with her family. As they mourn the passing of their wife, mother and grandmother, we pray that the Almighty God will comfort them.
Mary will be buried on the 31st of October 2020 in Kisumu.
May Mary’s soul rest in peace.
