I am deeply saddened by the news of John's passing and offer my sincere condolences to his family. John was a good friend who I met at 1st Wearne Bay Scout Group during my time as a Leader there. For many years he was a great Treasurer for the Group but his contributions to the Group went well beyond that. His assistance with setting up camps was greatly appreciated especially when broken gas lights or blocked gas cooking rings needed fixing. John also joined in with a number of our activities and I know he enjoyed the Surf Camp we organised each year. On working Bees at the hall, John was always the first there and last to leave. He climbed up on the roof many times to clear the gutters, a dirty job he was happy to do. He was a kind, generous and thoughtful person. We enjoyed many a glass of red together and I shall miss him greatly.
