Bill was indeed a very kind man...I remember in the summer of 1970, (before Pat & Bill were married), when I had just left school, I'd had to have a smallpox injection prior to going nursing...& became very unwell after it.. Bill was at our house...& the rest of the family were going out for some reason...Bill volunteered to stay with me, as I was feeling so poorly.... He also insisted on taking me to A.& E. as I was getting progressively worse, which he did & patiently waited for me to be seen by a doctor,...& then got me home in a taxi.... I was so grateful at the time....& although it's such a long time ago, never forgot his kindness... Kindness is a very precious thing to find in a person,....more of it would make for a better world....& I learnt early on that Bill had a very kind heart... Rest in peace....You will be remembered...xx

Bill’s mayoral year coincided with the 100th anniversary of the Battle of Passchendaele, one of the bloodiest of the First World War. He invited me to give a talk about it and then turned my jumbled-up notes into a book produced entirely at his own expense. Generously, every penny was donated to Citizens Advice Conwy and the Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal. Here we are presenting a cheque to officers of the Conwy Branch, RBL. Bill was a wonderfully kind, generous, gentle man.

Bill was in the school play 'Treasure Island'. He had one ticket for a guest and he took me. I'm his younger sister by 18 months. He particularly wanted me to sit in an aisle seat and, having made sure I has a good seat, he went off to get dressed up for his part as a pirate. The lights dimmed and the audience stared expectantly at the stage for the action to begin. Suddenly, hoards of noisy pirates shouting and waving their silver foil cutlasses ran from the back of the hall along the aisle and climbed on to the stage. Of course I got the full surprise element and one of the best views of the pirates in all their blood-curdling finery. It was a very memorable occasion when I was proud to be the guest of my talented big brother.

When Bill was still at Junior School (around 8 or 9), he fell over in the playground and broke his tooth - resulting in a slight gap still visible at the end of his life. For aesthetic reasons he was fitted with a single removeable false tooth held in place by a place by a plate in the roof of his mouth. He came home from school one day having been told off by the headteacher. Apparently he had been scaring the girls by using his tongue in the roof of his mouth to poke his false tooth out at them !!

I had met Bill years before in 2011 and subsequently joining the Labour Party in Aberconwy when he was the Chairman. A mutual interest of language, history and cultural activities such as the visual arts became a continued dialogue and update with Bill and lovely wife Pat. In 2017 my solo show at the Royal Cambrian Academy in Conwy was opening in September of Bill’s mayoral year. I was delighted he agreed to ‘open the show’, it was a magical evening and I will never forget his genuine, sincere and obvious enjoyment of the event. It was the highlight of my year. One of the loveliest times, such an honour to have Bill there with such integrity and warmth for everyone. This is one of my favourite photos ever. Bill was the epitome of a kind and gentle man, with such humanity. I miss him very much. Xxx

This is me with Bill on the night of my mayoral inauguration, having taken over from Bill as Mayor. He worked so hard as Mayor, attending very many engagements, I’m sure he will be remembered for his great enthusiasm and positivity and always smiling. He was very proud to be Mayor and of showing off our Guildhall. Beware any foreign visitors to Conwy. As soon as he heard an accent or different language visitors were promptly invited for a tour of the Guildhall and a look at the chain . Of course also an opportunity for Bill to use his many and varied language skills. Conwy Town Council will miss him very much.

I first met Bill in 2013 when he was Chair of the Llandudno Branch of the Labour Party. The first thing he said to me was you will be able to stand as a Councillor and you will really enjoy it. (I did and I didn’t)! Bill was an exemplary Councillor and his work in the community was an shining example to everyone., I never knew where he found the time! I spent many happy hours canvassing with Bill in local elections and the GE in 2015 and 2017. So many memories and I am really going to miss him

Taken in Waterford in March 2019 when we were visiting IWTN with North Wales Walled Towns Friendship Circle. The beginning of the hashtag #BillOnABench ! I took it to send to Pat to show her he was behaving himself.
