When Bill was still at Junior School (around 8 or 9), he fell over in the playground and broke his tooth - resulting in a slight gap still visible at the end of his life. For aesthetic reasons he was fitted with a single removeable false tooth held in place by a place by a plate in the roof of his mouth.
He came home from school one day having been told off by the headteacher. Apparently he had been scaring the girls by using his tongue in the roof of his mouth to poke his false tooth out at them !!
