This is very sad news. Like others across the globe in our field, I was very fond of Franz. He was a warm and inspirational leader in the world-wide drug policy community. My interactions with him were few and far between, but often thought provoking. Indeed, I based my keynote presentation at the Sydney ISSDP conference on an interaction I had with Franz in Gent, which really got me thinking about our field. The extent to which that presentation was well received has its origins in a seed planted by Franz. I will miss him. Simon Lenton, Perth Australia
