Very saddened by his death. I never met Hugh personally, but became very close over the last couple of years through the book I am editing (co-editor Mustafa Alam), titled Living on the Edge: Char Dwellers in Bangladesh. Hugh has a chapter in the book. Hugh even had volunteered to do an index for the book. Sorry to see him go before the publication of the book by Springer. We are submitting the manuscript this coming week. Hugh's scholarships on Bangladesh will remain unmatched. He was a real scholar and a mentor to many around the world. His legacy will live on. God bless him.
