My grandmother was one of the most self reliant individuals I have ever met in my life. My grandmother was a strong, intelligent, vibrant, supportive woman whose presence on this earth was a blessing for every one of us who have had the privilege of being around my grandmother. I remember my grandmother used to look after myself and my younger brother when were kids, every day my grandmother used to travel from the Bronx all the way to Manhattan to babysit my younger brother and I. I also remember my grandmother making sure that my brother and I were on the right track and kept us out of trouble. My grandmother kept bad influences away from us and always shared her wealth of knowledge about life with myself and my siblings. My grandmother was like a second mother to me and my siblings, she was always around no matter what, through good times and bad times. My grandmother helped to raise me and my siblings to be responsible adults. I am forever grateful for my grandmother being there for me and my siblings. Thank you, grandma. Thank you...

More than a grandmother. She was a soul mate...my best buddy who knew my heart (and by just looking into my eyes, she eerily always knew when I was about to catch a cold).

I love this woman. She embraced me and loved me as I did her as Shaunequa and I grew up together. We visited and laughed with her almost every time that I visited New York. It was just part of coming home.

I remember all the fun family Thanksgiving and Christmas, where I would call and get to speak to her and exchange loving words. This is family. I'm grateful and know she is going to give God a run for his money. She loves her family deeply and did whatever necessary to hold them together even if she had to move slower to do it. She was going to do it. Nothing could stop this force of love. Nothing ever will.

I remember my grandma teaching me how to do The Charleston dance and as we went over the steps she sang..."will you Charleston with me?"

Ah her 90th birthday...Family meant everything to my grandma. So she was over the moon to share her 90th birthday with her fam from near and far. I will never forget how happy she was...and how she wore her birthday girl crown all night long :)
