Dear Mrs. Lewandowski, Friends and Colleagues of Mr. Lewandowski,
Upon learning of the unfortunate passing of Mr. Jerzy Lewandowski, me and my colleagues in the Center for Relativity and Gravitation at Beijing Normal University are deeply saddened. I am writing now on behalf of myself and my colleagues to express our deep sympathy. Mr. Lewandowski has made significant contributions to the development and talent cultivation of theoretical physics in Poland, China and the World. He has made significant contributions to the fields of general relativity and quantum gravity, and established a widely influential research group at University of Warsaw. He is a great scientist and one of the founders of the frontier theory of loop quantum gravity. His passing is a significant loss for the theoretical physics community in our World.
I know Mr. Lewandowski for many years and always thought him as a personal friend. He is wise, humorous, kind and honest. It is really a pleasure of doing research and getting along with him. He visited Beijing for quite a few times and established deep friendships with my families and many colleagues in Beijing Normal University. We deeply mourn the passing of Mr. Lewandowski. We will miss him forever.
