Martin Hunt

November 10, 1965 - June 2, 2020

As some of you may know, Martin was given the devastating news on 19th of February 2020 that he had an aggressive brain tumour. Martin touched the hearts of so many people and is loved by so many, including colleagues across a number of services. Martin went above and beyond with the work that he did with our Young People. He was respected by so many and he would often be greeted in the streets of Huddersfield by his young people who thanked him for all he had done for them. His career spanned 30 years as a Social Worker, Senior Practitioner and a Team Manager in Kirklees across a number of service areas. A significant number of these years were spent in the Children in Care and Care Leavers service. In July 2019 Martin was successful in securing his dream job as a Practice and Development Consultant. Martin loved his role as it gave him the opportunity to be able to mentor newly qualified Social Workers starting their careers, a significant role in relation to their professional development. Martin was also one of the first Social Workers in Kirklees to set up supported housing for a woman he was working with who he knew would not thrive in the traditional care settings available to her at the time. I’m sure you all have some memory of Martin that will make you smile at this sad time and we ask you to share some memories of him here.

I have lots of fond memories of Martin, probably far too inappropriate to share so its probably best just to say "what happens in the club stays in the club" Keep on dancing Martin, dance like nobody is watching!!! RIP my friend xx

Very upset to see this. I've known Martin for over 25 years and he has never been anything other than friendly and supportive. Definitely one of the good guys . Caring and considerate to colleagues and service users alike and good company on a night out. Rest in peace Martin
