Packy the elephant was a 3.7 meters tall Asian elephant. He was perhaps the world"s tallest elephant. He was famous from birth in 1962 because he was the first elephant born on the western hemisphere for 44 years. Born in the zoo in Portland, Oregon, he lived for 54 years and weighed about 6000kg. He sired seven calves and was under treatment for tuberculosis which was found to be drug-resistant. His birth was memorialized in the veterinarian's book, "Packy and me."
