I first met Ralf in 1991 - I was at a conference in Berlin with my baby son. He created a name tag for my son so he appeared to be a 'proper' member of the conference - different times :) He was always a gentleman - charming, erudite, and there was nothing worth knowing about sulfur - amongst many other things - he didn't know. I met him many times over the years, and he always remained the same kind man I had first met. I last met him in 2017 in Berlin, where amongst other things he hosted a fantastic meal in the Reichstag, aided by his wife Yana, who he gave credit to for managing to persuade them to let us all to eat there at short notice.He adored Yana, who will miss him greatly, as we all do.
