The University announces with deep regret the death of Professor Julian Morris who had been unwell for some time.
Following his first degree and PhD at Newcastle, Julian worked for three years with Merz and McLellan, the Newcastle international consulting Engineers before joining the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering at Newcastle.
Julian was head of the Department of Chemical and Process Engineering at Newcastle University from 1990 to 1995 and was the first head of the new School of Chemical Engineering and Advanced Materials from 2002-2005 after which he retired. He spent three years as Professor of Chemical Engineering at the University of Alberta in Canada and his contributions to process control have been recognised by the co-receipt of a number of Paper prizes and awards.
Julian was also part of the team that established the Centre for Process Innovation (CPI) in the Northeast of England in 2004, which has become an integral part of the innovation landscape in the UK in support of the process industries.
