John Gardiner

24 april 2020 - 24 april 2020

John Gardiner, ANSTO's Property Manager based at Lucas Heights, sadly passed away on Friday 24 April, 2020. This news will come as a shock to many who worked with John and it’s a significant loss to the ANSTO community. During his time at ANSTO, John made a significant contribution working on major projects including the Innovation Precinct, as well as NMI and CSIRO matters. John contributed greatly to the development of all ANSTO’s campuses. As property manager, John was the face of ANSTO among the tenants, building strong relationships with all. Many of them have been impacted by the COVID-19 crisis and John had been working with them to provide support in recent weeks. Due to COVID-19 there are modifications to funeral gatherings so please share your memories and pass on your condolences to John's family. John was liked by many across ANSTO. He was the absolute professional and highly regarded for his composed nature and thoughtfulness. He was a valued ANSTO senior manager and will be greatly missed.

I had the privilege to work alongside John in the Facility Management group from day 1 of his time here at ANSTO. To say his passing was sudden and unexpected would be a gross understatement. The news came as a great shock to all in the team. His good humour and gentlemanly manner will be sadly missed by all those who he had touched. Never a bad word to be said about anyone and always happy to involve himself in any matter where he felt he could make an informed contribution. John was the second worst squash player in the group, yours truly being by far the worst, and together we would share in the occasional game after work. While bragging rights were the highly coveted spoils of victory, the games were always played in a courteous and sportsman like manner……………………….oh so typical of John. John would go out of his way to say “good morning” and “good evening”. He knew the names of the loved ones in our lives and would always ask after them. Traits that are so sadly missing in today’s busy and impersonal world. I, along with so many others will miss him.
