Kim was (and is still) my best friend growing up, and so I spent every spare moment at the Hochfeld house at 80 Boundary Rd. Claire-Bear was the energetic, cheerful one and Tessie was the bookworm, always with her nose in a book, and for good reason...look who earned that PhD! During those brief moments when she would poke her head up, she would usually say something erudite and thoughtful, with perfectly constructed grammar. The other image I have of Tessie is her raucous and joyful laugh..it was impossible not to join her. The last time we met in person was in May 2008 for Kimbal's bachelorette party. Tessie and Claire-Bear had chosen the lovely town of Whitstable in the UK, where a group of us ladies were to arrive to celebrate, with bachelorette paraphernalia in hand. Boy, I don't think those locals knew what hit them! I remember vividly, after our celebratory lunch, playing a game created by our lovely hosts, Tessa and CB. Kimbal earned prizes for right answers and had a punishment for a wrong one. One of those included making friends with the forlorn-looking fellow on the beach, and offering him our bottle of wine. I am including a photo of that very special day that captures Tessa's zeitgeist perfectly. The Hochfeld family will always be missing a piece, after this week. RIP Tessa.
