Noel was always happiest when he was behind the controls of anything on the Iron Road. His wealth of knowledge and experience in all types of traction we will never see the likes again. I was fortunate to travel with Noel on a few occasions on the footplate. Noel mentored me whilst i was training as a trainee fireman. He was always informative and explained everything that was happening on the steam enigine in great detail. It was great to see him in action and in control of the regulator. A huge loss to the Railway family. Condolences to the family circle. Rest easy, Noel. Your work here is complete.
