Alan McCarthy

January 8, 1961 - July 27, 2020

Alan was an incredible man dedicated to his family, who he loved unconditionally; he is survived and beloved by, his wife Sue, his children Glenn, Stuart, Brendan and his wife Ashlie, grandchildren Remy and Reese, siblings, nieces and nephews, friends and every single person in his life. Alan loved his community, which he supported through his work with Victoria Police for 29 years; his time with the local Legal Service where he served as Chairman of the Board for some time; his umpiring work with Cricket Victoria as a member of the Premier Panel of Umpires; and his work based at Doveton College with the school community, breakfast club, Men and Women of Doveton, and more. Alan touched the lives of everyone he met, and always had a good word to say about everyone. He was full of love and kindness, honour and pride, bringing joy and comfort to his family, friends and community. Alan will be missed by many, but none more so than his family. As an organ donor, he will go on to help others and save lives beyond the span of his own. There will be no funeral, but when this craziness is over we will get together and have a drink to this amazing man we are so proud to call husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, colleague, mate and friend. Please hug your loved ones while you can

“The loss is unmeasurable but so is the love left behind.” It is hard to say goodbye Alan. You have been a central part of our lives for so long that it is impossible to imagine what we will do without you. For us, you will be remembered as the voice of reason and calm, the solid and dependable friend and the loved and loving man who adored his family. You were always a class act. I take some comfort in the fact that we have some beautiful memories to keep us going. I remember meeting you all those years ago and I knew, even then, that you were going to make my dear friend happy. Your legacy will live on. I will look after your girl.
